The Picture Crate Company uses the best tried and tested quality materials in the manufacture of crates. We purchase the materials in bulk allowing us to provide a quality crate to the customer at the same price that other companies supply crates using far less suitable materials. All the timber we use as well as being ISPM15 compliant, derive from sustainable sources. To manufacture the panels of the crates we use timber framed Hardwood ply. Hardwood ply is far more moisture resistant, tougher than other panel materials and far less likely to delaminate.  The Picture Crate Company never uses nails or glue in the manufacture of their crates. We have a wide range of off the shelf size stock crates available for a next day delivery service. We have no quantity amounts, size restrictions or weight limits for the crates that we design and manufacture. Each and every item we pack is individually assessed by our highly trained packers to establish the most protective and secure way of packing.  If a painting or print is glazed then we would use low adhesive masking tape criss-crossed on the glass to protect against any rough handling whilst in transit. Some of the extra wrappings we use are acid free paper, different size bubble wraps, protective papers, cards and boards etc. For larger, heavier or items that require extra protection we often use soft foam membrane lined white vinyl bubble blanket. Plus many types and thickness’s of foams. At the Picture Crate Company every time we wrap and pack a consignment ready for shipping, we take into account the journey the packed crate has ahead to make sure that all will be safe and secure whilst in transit.

At the Picture Crate Company we offer a wide range of linings to offer extra protection within the crates whilst in transit. The crate maybe shipped by sea as part of a larger consignment. For sea transit the crate can be water proof lined with bitumen Kraft paper or the wrapped item heat sealed within a waterproof foil bag. Depending on the medium and weight of the item, if required the crate may be lined with a mixture of high density foam, soft foam or Polystyrene sheeting.  When a painting has a full fragile or decorative frame, after protective wrapping the painting may require fixing to a timber H frame into the crate with supporting corner foam blocks adhered into place. Whatever the requirement, the Picture Crate Company can offer the ideal solution.
